Workforce Development, Staffing Up in American Canyon
Workforce development is a hot topic not just in Napa Valley but worldwide. As we navigate through these uncharted waters, the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce is looking to convene leaders to discuss and find solutions for meeting our member’s workforce needs. Many businesses, from local diners to international production facilities located in American Canyon, are struggling to become and stay fully staffed to meet the demands of customers and clients.
The American Canyon Chamber of Commerce is approaching this issue locally by working to be a champion to connect workers with employers; be the voice of business when discussing affordable housing and traffic issues and collaborating with other chambers and organizations to improve visibility for American Canyon as a great place to work.
Here are two ways the American Canyon Chamber is connecting potential employees with businesses:
- County-wide Hospitality Job Fairs in collaboration with all Napa County Chambers of Commerce
- Create an American Canyon Business Job Fair, early Spring 2022
The county-wide virtual Hospitality Job Fairs are a collaboration with Career Point, Workforce Alliance of the North Bay and the American Canyon, Napa, Yountville, St. Helena, Calistoga Chambers. At the last event on August 20, 2021, fifty employers presented job openings to potential hires in their virtual booths.
We recognize that our membership and our part of the Napa Valley extends beyond hospitality job opportunities. To address that we are currently in the planning phase to create an in-person job fair in late winter or early spring for positions across all industries. We are working to create a platform for our members to showcase their company culture, job opportunities, and directly connect with potential new hires. While we may not be able to see the smiles behind the masks, it will be a great opportunity to reach an audience beyond the virtual stage.
Workforce Alliance of the North Bay has been a long-standing partner of the American Canyon Chamber and will continue to deepen its relationship by giving them an active voice on our Economic Business Development committee. Together we will explore and address hurdles and opportunities to offer our members as they tackle their needs for recruiting new employees.
If you would like to participate in future job fairs or apply to be a part of the American Canyon Chamber – Economic Business Development Committee, please reach out to Valerie Zizak-Morais, President & CEO, at Valerie@AmCanChamber.org.
